for: Deliver Memorable Presentations

Program Overview:

Presenting to a group is something that stretches most of us beyond our comfort zone. This course provides participants with the tools and techniques that enable them to deliver highly engaging presentations. Starting with the planning process we clarify purpose and outcomes and investigate the target audience. We then launch into presentation skills, exploring the many elements that make up a memorable presentation.

The course is highly interactive. There are many opportunities for participants to deliver micro presentations throughout the course, putting theory into practice. In the final activity each participant will deliver a short presentation, followed by a facilitated feedback discussion.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Define what makes a presenter memorable

  • Identify the purpose and outcome(s) of a relevant presentation

  • Determine the key messages in a presentation

  • Discuss key adult learning principles and discuss how they can be applied in a presentation

  • Articulate the 3 different sensory learning styles and explain how each can be accommodated in a presentation

  • Conduct a profile of your target audience

  • Determine a logical structure for a presentation

  • Articulate the 3V’s of presenting and use this model to self-assess your presenting skills

  • Explain the concept of framing and how it can influence presentation outcomes

  • Describe the key elements of a dynamic introduction and conclusion

  • Determine the best way to use PowerPoint when presenting

  • List the 4 stages of a good story and determine the best time to use stories in a presentation

  • Identify personal actions that will enhance your presentation ability.

Who Should Attend?

  • This course is suitable for anyone who has a responsibility to present to small or large groups. Whilst it is highly relevant to those who have limited presentation experience, it is also applicable to individuals who are experienced and would like to refine their skills and explore further options for developing and delivering more engaging and memorable presentations.

Detailed Program Outline:

Day 1: Planning a Presentation

Module 1: 

 

Introduction

  • Overcome the fear of presenting

  • Activity: what makes a presentation memorable?

Module 2:

 

Preparing to present

  • Clarify the purpose of your presentation

  • Determine your specific objectives

  • What do you want your audience to do differently?

Module 3:

 

Understand your audience

  • Profile your target audience and accommodate their needs

  • Explore core adult learning principles

  • Cater to the 3 sensory learning styles (visual, audio, kinaesthetic)

  • Determine your overall presentation structure

  • Using the presentation planning template

Day 2: Deliver an Engaging Presentation

Module 1: 

 

Being an authentic presenter

  • The 3 V’s of presenting

  • Manage your body language

  • Activity: Adopt the neutral stance

  • Find your best presenting voice

  • Choose the right words

Module 2:

 

Engage your audience

  • Create a dynamic introduction

  • Make a powerful conclusion

  • The art of framing content

  • Use personal stories for impact

  • Letting go of PowerPoint

  • Expect the unexpected

Module 3:

 

Give it a go! 

  • Each participant delivers a short presentation

  • Followed by a facilitated feedback discussion

Program Inclusions:

  • Learner guide

  • Pre and post course activities.

Duration:

  • 2x full days delivered across 2 consecutive days

  • The program can also be delivered as 2 single days 1-2 weeks apart.

Program Prerequisites:

There are no prerequisites for this course. Participants are advised to bring a relevant workplace presentation that they can focus on throughout the course.
